Contemporary Artists from Uzbekistan
Imago Mundi - Luciano Benetton Collection
Texts by Luciano Benetton, Enrico Mascelloni, K.B. Akilova
Rational expressions and flights of fancy, interpretations and inquiry in a network of routes, trails and paths which, like on the Silk Road, overlap, sometimes crossing each other, sometimes moving apart. Inner worlds and common realities, the wisdom of history and the energy of youth: Uzbekistan shows us life through the works of 140 artists. In a scenario that is open to the world and to the future, this collection shows how the contemporary creativity of this Asian Republic, land of great conquerors and distant empires - from Cyrus to Alexander, from Tamerlane to Nicholas II, from the Arabs to the Turks, to the Mongols and the Russians - is still closely tied to myths and tradition, no less than the patterns of its fine carpets.
Uzbekistan/Routes. Contemporary Artists from Uzbekistan is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.
www.imagomundiart.com is the web platform of the entire project
